Grounded crossplay guide showing Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch compatibility, cross-save support, cross-generation multiplayer, and platform limitations in 2026.

Is Grounded Cross Platform in 2026?

Yes. Grounded crossplay links Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Cross-save works only between Xbox and Microsoft Store PC copies.

Obsidian added PlayStation and Switch players to the crossplay pool on April 16, 2024, with the Fully Yoked update. Up to four players share one backyard.

TL;DR – Grounded Crossplay Status

Crossplay: All platforms

Consoles: Full crossplay

Mobile: Not available

Cross-save: Xbox and PC

Cross-generation: Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5 owners all join the same crossplay sessions.

Crossplay vs Cross-Platform vs Cross-Save In Grounded

People mix these terms up. In Grounded, each one works a little differently.

FeatureSupported
Cross-platform availabilityYes
CrossplayYes, all platforms
Cross-savePartial

Cross-platform availability means Grounded sells on Xbox, Windows PC, PlayStation and Switch. Crossplay means those players can build a base together in the same world.

Cross-save is narrower. Progress syncs through Xbox Play Anywhere, which covers Xbox consoles plus the Microsoft Store and Game Pass PC versions.

Steam, PlayStation and Switch keep their own save files. A world started on PS5 stays on PS5.

Buying on Steam also means no Xbox sync, even with a linked Microsoft account. Players who want to switch between couch and desk should buy through the Microsoft Store or play on Game Pass.

Xbox and Microsoft Store players get crossplay by default. Steam, PlayStation and Switch players need a free Microsoft account, linked through a code shown in the game’s options menu.

Which Platforms Can Play Grounded Together?

Here’s how multiplayer actually works in Grounded:

Platform pairingCrossplay
PC (Steam / Microsoft Store)✔ Yes (no native Mac or Linux build)
PC ↔ ConsoleYes
PlayStation ↔ XboxYes
Xbox ↔ SwitchYes
MobileNo mobile version

Hosting works the same way on every platform. One player opens a world, and friends join from whatever system they own.

Dedicated servers are a different story. Grounded relies on player-hosted sessions and shared worlds, unlike ARK, which runs large public servers.

There is no cross-platform voice chat. Mixed groups use Discord or their own platform’s party chat.

Grounded 2 follows its own rules. It entered Early Access on Xbox Series X|S and PC in July 2025, then reached PS5 on August 11, 2026, with crossplay across all three. A Switch version has not been announced.

Grounded 2 cross-progression also runs through Xbox Play Anywhere. GameSpot reported that Steam copies of the sequel do not share saves with Xbox.

What Is The Best Platform For Grounded?

Xbox Series X|S

Game Pass, cross-save, Quick Resume

Windows PC

Mods, mouse aim, higher frame rates

PlayStation 5

Native PS5 build, trophies

Nintendo Switch

Portable, full crossplay

Xbox and PC share saves, and Steam usage data shows why PC lobbies stay busy. Console buyers can check PS5 and Xbox Series X sales or Switch user trends.

FAQs

Is Grounded cross platform between PC and Xbox?

Yes. PC and Xbox players share Grounded worlds, and Microsoft Store or Game Pass copies also share saves with Xbox. More on the console base is in our Xbox statistics.

Will Grounded Ever Be Cross Platform?

It already is. The April 2024 Fully Yoked update brought PlayStation and Switch into crossplay. Obsidian called it the final major content update, so full cross-save beyond Xbox and PC looks unlikely.

Is there Switch PC crossplay in Grounded?

Yes. Switch players can join PC hosts after linking a free Microsoft account in Grounded’s options menu. Switch saves do not transfer to PC.

Is Grounded co-op cross platform?

Yes. Grounded co-op supports up to four players on any mix of Xbox, PC, PlayStation and Switch. Dying Light handles co-op crossplay very differently.

Does Grounded 2 support crossplay?

Yes. Grounded 2 crossplay covers Xbox Series X|S, PC and PS5 since August 2026. Our crossplay statistics show how common that setup has become.
