Is Dying Light Cross Platform in 2026?
Only on PC. Dying Light crossplay links Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG players. PlayStation, Xbox and Switch owners stay on their own platform.
Techland added PC crossplay in a free update on February 28, 2022, the same day Dying Light reached the Epic Games Store. Consoles never got the equivalent.
TL;DR – Dying Light Crossplay Status
- Crossplay: PC only
- Consoles: Same-platform only
- Mobile: No multiplayer
- Cross-save: Not supported
- Cross-generation: The PS4 disc runs on PS5 and the Xbox One version runs on Xbox Series X|S, with free next-gen patches that arrived in 2022.
Crossplay vs Cross-Platform vs Cross-Save In Dying Light
| Feature | Supported |
|---|---|
| Cross-platform availability | Yes |
| Crossplay | PC Only |
| Cross-save | No |
Being on many platforms is not the same as playing across them. Dying Light shipped on PC, PS4 and Xbox One in January 2015, then reached Switch in October 2021. Each console keeps its own player pool.
Saves do not move either. A Steam save stays on Steam, a PS5 save stays on PlayStation. The sequel kept the same rule, as the Dying Light 2 crossplay breakdown shows.
Which Platforms Can Play Dying Light Together?
Here’s how multiplayer actually works in Dying Light:
| Platform pairing | Works |
|---|---|
| PC / Mac / Linux | ✔ Yes |
| PC ↔ Console | No |
| PlayStation ↔ Xbox | No |
| Xbox ↔ Switch | No |
| Mobile | No multiplayer |
The 2022 patch covered every PC build. Techland’s announcement listed Steam, Epic, GOG, Windows, Mac and Linux as one shared pool. A friend on GOG can join a Steam host without any workaround.
Console co-op is four players, same platform, same generation family. PS4 and PS5 owners can play together, and the same goes for Xbox One and Series X|S. Switch players match only with Switch.
That puts Dying Light in the same bracket as Rust, which also walls PC off from consoles. Zombie co-op rivals went further. 7 Days to Die crossplay now spans PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
Mobile does not enter the picture. Techland has never released a phone or tablet version of Dying Light, so there is no mobile multiplayer to connect.
What Is The Best Platform For Dying Light?
PC is the only version where crossplay exists at all. Consoles got 60fps patches in 2022. Handheld buyers can compare the Switch port against Deck figures in the Steam Deck ownership data.
FAQs
Is Dying Light cross platform PC and Xbox?
No. PC and Xbox players cannot join the same co-op session. Dying Light crossplay only connects PC storefronts. Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owners play together, but nobody outside the Xbox network can join them.
Can you crossplay Dying Light between PS5 and Xbox?
No. PlayStation and Xbox run separate player pools with no cross console link. Each side supports co-op within its own generation family only, the same setup Monster Hunter World uses.
Does Dying Light have crossplay between Steam and Epic?
Yes. Since the February 28, 2022 update, Steam, Epic Games Store and GOG players share one multiplayer pool. Invites work through the in-game friends menu, and Mac and Linux builds join the same sessions.
Is Dying Light co op cross platform on Switch?
No. The Switch Platinum Edition, released October 19, 2021, supports online co-op with other Switch owners only. It cannot match with PC, PlayStation or Xbox players, and saves stay on the console.
Will Dying Light Ever Be Cross Platform?
Unlikely. Techland has not announced console crossplay for Dying Light since the 2022 PC patch, and the studio has moved on to newer releases. Full crossplay later arrived for Baldur’s Gate 3, but Dying Light shows no such plan.
