ARK crossplay guide showing Survival Ascended platform compatibility, PS5, Xbox, PC, cross-save limitations, official PvP restrictions, private servers, and mobile separation.

Is ARK Cross Platform in 2026?

Partly. ARK: Survival Ascended links PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on private servers. Official PvP servers keep PC separate.

Studio Wildcard released Survival Ascended on October 25, 2023. The 2017 original follows different rules, which is where most of the confusion starts.

TL;DR – ARK Crossplay Status

  • Crossplay: Partial
  • Consoles: PS5, Xbox
  • Mobile: Separate servers
  • Cross-save: Console only
  • Cross-generation: Survival Ascended skipped PS4, Xbox One and Switch entirely, so no backward compatibility path carries a survivor forward from the 2017 build.

ARK crossplay depends on which ARK you own and which server you join. Those two answers decide everything else, unlike Sea of Thieves and its single shared pool.

Crossplay vs Cross-Platform vs Cross-Save In ARK

FeatureSupported
Cross-platform availabilityYes
CrossplayPS5, Xbox and PC
Cross-saveConsole only

Wildcard shipped Survival Ascended on Xbox Series X|S on November 21, 2023, and on PS5 on November 30, 2023. Availability is broad.

Cross-save is the weak spot. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S share progress, PC does not join that link, and your character otherwise lives on whichever server you built it on. Warframe handles account-linked progression far more cleanly.

Which Platforms Can Play ARK Together?

Here’s how multiplayer actually works in ARK:

Platform pairingSupported
PC (Steam) ↔ PC (Epic Games Store)✔ Yes
PlayStation 5 ↔ Xbox Series X|S✔ Yes
PC ↔ console, unofficial servers✔ Yes
PC ↔ console, official PvPNo
Switch, PS4, Xbox OneNo release
MobileNo crossplay

Wildcard disabled PC-to-console crossplay on official PvP servers in January 2024 after cheating complaints. The block has stayed in place since. Consoles kept their half of it, so PS5 and Xbox tribes still share official maps.

Private dedicated servers never lost it. Rent one, flip crossplay on, and a Steam player, a PS5 player and an Xbox player share the same map. That flexibility mirrors what 7 Days to Die allows on hosted servers.

The 2017 release is stricter. ARK: Survival Evolved pairs Xbox with the Microsoft Store PC build and nothing else, closer to the storefront split DayZ lives with.

ARK: Ultimate Mobile Edition runs its own servers for iOS and Android. No mobile tribe touches a PC or console map.

Treat the mobile version as a separate game. It uses trimmed maps and its own progression, and Wildcard has never linked it to the main releases.

What Is The Best Platform For ARK?

PC (Steam)Full mod tools, most servers
PC (Epic Games Store)Steam crossplay, frequent sales
Xbox Series X|SConsole crossplay, mod browser
PlayStation 5Xbox tribes, steady performance

PC still holds the deepest mod library and the longest server list. Consoles get CurseForge mods in-game, a first for the series. Handheld buyers should read Steam Deck install base figures before committing.

FAQs

Does ARK have crossplay in 2026?

Yes, with limits. Survival Ascended supports crossplay between PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on unofficial servers. Official PvP servers separate PC players from consoles.

Is ARK cross platform PC and Xbox?

Yes on Survival Ascended, through private or unofficial servers. Official PvP keeps them apart. On Survival Evolved, only the Microsoft Store PC copy connects to Xbox.

Is ARK co op cross platform?

Yes. A Survival Ascended tribe can mix Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5 and Xbox survivors on a dedicated server with crossplay enabled. Official PvP co-op excludes PC.

Does ARK support cross-save?

Only between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC saves stay on PC. Server characters live on the server you built them on, so switching hosts means starting over.

Will ARK Ever Be Cross Platform?

It already is, outside official PvP. Wildcard has not given a date for restoring PC-to-console PvP crossplay. Diablo 4 shows what unrestricted crossplay looks like.
