Older Gamer Demographics In The US
The ESA’s 2026 Essential Facts report places players aged 50 and over at 29% of the US player base, level with the 18-34 band and eight points above the under-18 share.
YouGov fielded the survey from 11 to 25 February 2026 among 13,545 respondents, 9,932 of whom qualified as players by spending at least one hour a week on a smartphone, tablet, PC, console or VR headset. Those five devices sit inside one headline number, which hides the platform split covered in these mobile and console player comparisons.
212.3 million Americans aged 5 to 90 clear that bar, up 3% on the 2025 report. The average player age is 37.
| Age band | Share of US players |

| 18–34 | 29% |

|---|---|---|
| Millennials | 30–45 | 71% |
| Gen X | 46–61 | 56% |

Older Gamer Demographics Worldwide
Power of Play 2025 surveyed 24,216 active players aged 16 and over across 21 countries, with fieldwork by AudienceNet and a minimum of 1,000 players per country. Players aged 45 and over make up 38% of that sample, more than double the 14% aged 16 to 24.
One limit matters: the survey floor is 16, so children are excluded and the older shares would be smaller if under-16s were counted. Mobile is the favourite device for 55% of players, against 21% each for computers and consoles, so desktop play stays a minority of first choices worldwide, a pattern set out in these PC gaming market figures.
