Castlevania is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed and published by Konami for the NES. Vampire hunter Simon Belmont fights through six stages of Dracula’s castle with his whip and sub-weapons — daggers, axes, holy water, and the cross — collecting hearts to power them, before facing the Grim Reaper and Dracula. It helped define the gothic action-platformer with its deliberate, weighty combat.
