askew left, askew rightthe two directions people type

Same trick either way. The page leans a few degrees and refuses to sit straight.

tilt googlethe phrase that also works

A slight rotation on the whole sheet. Nothing else on the page changes at all.

askew gravitythe pair people try next

Tilt first, then drop it. The lean is still there while everything falls.

The whole sheet hangs off one pin and never sits straight

A few degrees is all it takes. The text stays readable, the layout doesn’t break, nothing else changes, and yet the page is clearly wrong in a way you can’t stop noticing once you’ve seen it.

That’s the entire joke and it’s held up for years. It’s the smallest of these tricks by a wide margin, which is probably why it’s the one people show other people.

9°

Roughly the standard lean. Enough to see, small enough that the page still works.

2

Directions. Left and right do the same thing mirrored, and people try both.

0

Things that break. Every link, button and field behaves exactly as it did.

1

Pin holding it. Swing the sheet by hand and it settles back on its own.

swinging it by hand

Drag the sheet and it pivots around the pin at the top. Let go and it swings past level a couple of times before it settles, the way anything hanging from one point does. It never quite lands at zero.

holding it level

The spirit level along the bottom is a small challenge. Press the button and the sheet starts drifting on its own. Keep the bubble inside the middle and the timer runs. Let it out and you’re back to nothing.

Three seconds is achievable. Ten is annoying. The drift changes direction at random intervals so you can’t learn a pattern, only react to one.

lean it further

Steps the tilt up past the usual few degrees toward something absurd. At the far end the text is running down the screen at an angle that makes reading genuinely difficult, which is worth doing once.

things in the same family

If a fixed lean isn’t enough, do a barrel roll takes the same page and spins it a full turn instead, and it will do that as many times as you ask.

For a page that leans and then collapses, google gravity drops everything into a heap on the floor. google mirror flips it left to right so the text reads backwards while staying perfectly level.

And bouncy google gives the whole thing spring, so nothing stays where you put it in any direction.
