Steam Deck weekly unit sales fell an estimated 82% after Valve’s May 27, 2026 price increase, according to Boiling Steam’s July 2026 model of Steam’s revenue-ranked Top Sellers chart. Valve has never published a Steam Deck sales figure. This post separates the measured Steam Deck ownership data, IDC shipment estimates and Valve’s opt-in hardware survey, from the arithmetic stacked on top of it.

How Many Steam Decks Have Shipped?
IDC tracks four hardware families in its handheld gaming PC estimates: the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and MSI Claw. Analyst Lewis Ward split the SteamOS share out by year at The Verge’s request in February 2025.
That remains the only per-year breakdown anyone has published. The figures below count units shipped into channel, not units sold to buyers.

Every 2022 unit was a Steam Deck. Ward put the Deck at upwards of 50% of 2023 shipments and 48% of 2024 shipments.
The Verge’s arithmetic on those shares landed at upwards of 3.7 million Decks shipped, with the note that Valve had quite possibly crossed 4 million by February 2025.
Category shipments fell from 2,867,000 in 2023 to 1,485,000 in 2024. The Deck’s rising share came out of a smaller pool.
IDC has published no Deck-specific split for 2025 or 2026. Valve’s last public comment on volume was “multiple millions,” made in November 2023.
Steam Deck Ownership In Valve’s Hardware Survey
SteamOS Holo is the Deck’s operating system, which makes its survey line the only monthly first-party read available. Valve’s July 2026 survey put SteamOS Holo at 0.89% of all surveyed Steam systems and 22.24% of surveyed Linux systems.
The survey is opt-in and randomised, so single-month swings carry sampling noise. Linux itself has moved sharply across 2026.

March 2026 was an all-time survey high for Linux. The Deck-attributable line moved far less: SteamOS Holo sat at 0.84% of surveyed systems in June and 0.89% in July.
Inside Linux, SteamOS Holo went the other way, from 22.83% in June to 22.24% in July. CachyOS, Linux Mint and Bazzite all gained ground in the same survey. Steam’s concurrent user records sit on a different measurement entirely and cannot be combined with these shares.
One caveat now applies to every reading after June 2026. The Steam Machine shipped at the end of June at $1,049 and also reports as SteamOS Holo, so July is no longer a Deck-only line.
GamingOnLinux also flagged that the July page’s month-over-month comparisons looked wrong on publication, and noted Valve fixed them.
What Steam Deck Ownership Costs In 2026
Valve restocked the Deck and raised prices in the same announcement on May 27, 2026, citing rising memory and storage costs. The company stated the hardware itself had not changed.

That is $240 on the 512GB model and $300 on the 1TB. Regional pricing moved in step, with the 1TB reaching CAD 1,349.
Refurbished stock absorbed less of the increase. Engadget reported on the day of the announcement that the refurbished 512GB LCD held at $359, while refurbished OLED units moved to $629 and $759.
Valve pointed to component costs and logistics across the industry rather than anything Deck-specific. Buyers replacing controllers and docks have met the same pressure, and the gap against retro console hardware has widened considerably.
How Many Steam Decks Sell Each Week Now?
Steam’s Global Weekly Top Sellers chart ranks by gross revenue, not units. Boiling Steam used that property to model Deck volumes in an article published July 20, 2026.
The Deck held rank #4 to #5 through 2025 and had slipped to the #10 to #15 band by mid-July 2026. Boiling Steam assigned weekly revenue bands of $6.0M to $10.0M and $1.2M to $2.5M to those positions, an estimated 72% revenue decline.
Its average selling price assumptions were roughly $540 before the change and roughly $835 after, once the sub-$400 tier disappeared. Dividing revenue by price produced estimated weekly units of 11,000 to 18,000 in 2025 against 1,400 to 3,000 in July 2026, about 82% lower.
Boiling Steam describes the method as napkin math. Valve publishes the ranking, not the revenue behind it, and the revenue bands are the analyst’s own estimates.
The same analyst put the Steam Machine at 12,000 to 15,000 units per week during its launch window, in a piece published July 18, 2026.
Steam Deck Ownership And The Verified Library
Compatibility ratings are the one Deck metric that kept climbing through the pricing turbulence. The counts below come from SteamDB filters checked at each milestone, and include titles delisted from the store.

PCWorld put the same January 2026 total at 25,055, so the two published counts differ slightly.
On engagement, Valve reported 330 million hours of Steam playtime on Deck during 2024, a 64% rise on 2023, in its Steam Year in Review 2024 published March 2025. It has not published a comparable Deck figure since.
Steam Deck Ownership Against ROG Ally, Legion Go And Switch
TechPowerUp asked 22,649 PC gamers in July 2025 whether they game on a handheld. A total of 7,852 respondents, or 34.7%, said yes, and were then split by device.
This is an opt-in community poll of a hardware site’s readers, not a market measurement.

The Deck and the Switch finished 13 votes apart. Nintendo’s own shipment totals sit in a different order of magnitude, which is what separates a reader poll from a sales figure.
Circana analyst Mat Piscatella said in February 2026 that the ROG Xbox Ally had a strong opening month and had come down significantly since. Asked whether it had dented the Steam Deck, he answered no.
Reading Steam Deck Ownership Numbers
IDC counts shipments into channel and covers four brands, which makes its total a floor rather than an install base.
Valve’s survey is opt-in and randomised, and the March 2026 Linux spike coincided with a documented shift in sample composition rather than a wave of new hardware.
No per-year Deck split has been published since February 2025, so any cumulative Deck total quoted for 2025 or 2026 is an extrapolation. The same caution applies to the wider PC gaming market and to Steam’s library and revenue figures.
